September 22, 2006 WDFW will release 400 pheasants on Chinook site during hunting season OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will release pheasants for the first time on an 800-acre site in the Chinook Valley of Pacific County during this year’s pheasant-hunting season. The first pheasant hunting opportunity will be for juvenile hunters only, under age 16, Sept. 23-24. This will be followed by a season open only to hunters age 65 and older, which will run Sept. 25-29. The general pheasant-hunting season opens to all hunters Sept. 30 through Nov. 30. A pheasant permit is required in addition to a hunting license. Two birds of either sex may be taken each day. The WDFW pheasant release will occur on department property that is the former Washington State University dairy site along the south shore of the Chinook River. About 400 birds will be released over the 10-week hunting season, with new releases made before each weekend. “We want to make local hunters aware of this new pheasant-hunting opportunity,” said Mick Cope, WDFW upland bird manager.
