SALEM – Bird hunters seeking to improve their shooting
skills and overall success in the field are encouraged to sign up for
two free shooting clinics being offered through the Cooperative North
American Shotgunning Education Program (CONSEP) this month.
The clinics begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 16 at the Redmond Rod and Gun
Club in Redmond and Sept. 17 at the Emerald Empire Gun Club in Eugene .
While upland bird hunters can benefit from the clinics, CONSEP seminars
are geared towards waterfowl hunters.
Pre-registration is required to attend; contact Carol Turner at (503)
947-6303, email carol.d.turner@state.or.us to register.
ODFW recently became a member of CONSEP, an international
organization of fish and wildlife agencies that operates a proactive
education program to help bird hunters become better hunters.
CONSEP seminars are fun and informative and help hunters learn how to
judge distance better, pick the right shotshell load for their guns for
different species and ranges and make better judgments on shots taken.
Numerous ODFW and Oregon State Police personnel will be on hand to
assist at the seminars in Redmond and Eugene.
Further educational materials and shotgun patterning training will be
offered to hunters at Summer Lake Wildlife Area during the opening
weekend of duck season (Oct. 7).
