Registration open for hunter education event

New hunters who need to complete hunter education before going afield this fall can register for a special three-day course to be held Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in eastern Washington.

The course, which is required in Washington for any hunter born after Jan. 1, 1972, will be conducted at the Boy Scouts of America Camp Cowles in jamboree style, with up to 150 students taught by a team of volunteer instructors. Instruction will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., Sept. 29; 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sept. 30; and from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., Oct. 1.

Camp Cowles is located on Diamond Lake, near the town of Newport in Pend Oreille County.

Registration for the jamboree will be taken at two locations on the following dates:

bulletSept. 11-15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) eastern regional office, 2315 N. Discovery Place in Spokane Valley.
bulletSept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Sportsman's Warehouse, 14014 E. Indiana Ave., in Spokane Valley

Registration will also be available through Sept. 17 by contacting:
