| 8/28/2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sample the Great Outdoors at Conservation Village at the DuQuoin State Fair Learn About Everything from Fishing to Forestry in Illinois DUQUOIN, IL - Visitors to the DuQuoin State Fair are invited to learn more about the natural features and outdoor recreation opportunities in Illinois by visiting Conservation Village on the DuQuoin fairgrounds, hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Conservation Village activities and programs are open each day of the DuQuoin State Fair, August 26- September 4. “We want to encourage families, youngsters and outdoor sports enthusiasts to stop by our Conservation Village at the DuQuoin Fair and see what outdoor Illinois has to offer,” said Sam Flood, Acting Director of the IDNR. “Illinois is a great state to fish, hunt, trail ride, hike and camp. We do an outstanding job of protecting our natural wonders and invite you to stop by Conservation Village and see for yourself how conservation programs are working.” Information
tents at Conservation Village are located in the center of the DuQuoin
fairgrounds between Expo Drive and Lake Lane next to the free entertainment
area. Conservation Village visitors will find information and displays on
natural resources and IDNR programs, with staff members on hand to discuss
exhibits and answer questions. Exhibits will highlight state wildlife,
fisheries, forestry, parks, outdoor recreation, restoration ecology, mines
and minerals and other programs. Visitors can talk with Conservation Police Officers about hunting, fishing and boating rules and regulations. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful woodwork of “Come See What We Saw” Bear Tracks Chainsaw Carving by Mike and Wendy Rhodes. Another area of Conservation Village is at the DuQuoin fairgrounds lake located between RV World and the Expo Building. The IDNR Urban Fishing Program is located on the lake and will feature Kids Casting Clinics each weekday between 4 - 7 p.m. and on the weekends and Labor Day from noon - 7 p.m. Adults and youngsters can practice their casting techniques and view many fish displays. Fishing Safety Clinics for school groups are scheduled to begin Wednesday, August 30 through Friday, September 1 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Each clinic will last approximately one-half hour.
