Klamath/Trinity River Basin Salmon Recreational Seasons and Size Restrictions Effective Aug. 15

This year’s regulations prohibiting the recreational retention of Klamath River Fall Chinook salmon over 22 inches total length will take effect on Aug. 15. The regulations were recommended by the Pacific Fishery Management Council and approved by the California Fish and Game Commission. General area closures and gear restrictions are the same as last year. Anadromous waters of the Klamath River Basin are closed to fishing all year, except those listed below:

Klamath and Trinity River Chinook Salmon Seasons.

bulletKlamath River from Iron Gate Dam to the Highway 96 bridge at Weitchpec.
bulletOpen all year except no salmon over 22 inches total length may be retained from April 1 through Nov. 30, 2006.
bulletKlamath River Below the Highway 96 bridge at Weitchpec.
bulletOpen all year except no salmon over 22 inches total length may be retained from Aug. 15 to Nov. 30, 2006.
bulletTrinity River main stem from 250 feet below Lewiston Dam to Old Lewiston bridge.
bulletOpen April 1 through Sept. 15 with zero bag limit for trout and salmon. Only artificial flies with barbless hooks may be used.
bulletTrinity River main stem from the Old Lewiston Bridge to the Highway 299 West Bridge at Cedar Flat.
bulletOpen all year except no salmon over 22 inches total length may be retained from Sept. 15 through Nov. 30, 2006.
bulletTrinity River main stem from the Highway 299 West bridge at Cedar Flat downstream to the Hawkins Bar Bridge.
bulletOpen Dec. 1 to Aug. 31 and closed to all fishing from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, 2006.
bulletTrinity River main stem from Hawkins Bar Bridge downstream to the mouth of the Trinity River South Fork.
bulletOpen all year except no salmon over 22 inches total length may be retained from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, 2006.
bulletTrinity River main stem from the mouth of the Trinity River South Fork downstream to the confluence with the Klamath River.
bulletOpen all year except no salmon over 22 inches total length may be retained from April 1 through Nov. 30, 2006.

Klamath and Trinity River Bag and Possession limits.

bulletThe trout daily bag limit is one hatchery trout or one hatchery steelhead, and one brown trout. Hatchery trout or steelhead are those showing a healed adipose fin clip (adipose fin is absent).
bulletThe Chinook salmon daily bag limit is three, of which no more than one can be over 22 inches total length when the take of salmon over 22 inches total length is allowed.
bulletNo more than two Chinook salmon over 22 inches total length may be retained in any seven consecutive days when the take of salmon over 22 inches total length is allowed.
bulletNo more than 12 Chinook salmon may be possessed, of which no more than two may be over 22 inches total length when the take of salmon over 22 inches total length is allowed.

Scott River main stem from mouth to Fort Jones-Greenview bridge. Fourth Saturday in May through Feb. 28. 0
Shasta River main stem from Interstate 5 bridge north of Yreka to the mouth. Fourth Saturday in May through Aug. 31 and Nov. 16 through Feb. 28. 0
Canyon Creek above the falls located about four miles above the wilderness area boundary. Last Saturday in April through Nov. 15. 2
New River main stem from the mouth upstream to the confluence of the East Fork. Sept. 15 through Nov. 15. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used. 0
Trinity River South Fork downstream from the mouth of Grouse Creek. Fourth Saturday in May through March 31. 0 Chinook salmon
1 hatchery trout or
1 hatchery steelhead, and 1 brown trout.
Trinity River South Fork from the mouth of Grouse Creek to the South Fork Trinity River bridge at Hyampom. Nov. 1 through March 31. 0 Chinook salmon

Hayfork Creek main stem from Highway 3 bridge in Hayfork downstream to the mouth. Fourth Saturday in May through March 31 Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used. 0
