Division of Fish and Wildlife Reminds Anglers: Flounder
Under Minimum Size Cannot Be Used for Bait; Minimum Size is 17 Inches
In response to numerous citizen complaints, the Delaware Division of Fish
and Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control,
reminds all persons fishing in tidal waters for summer flounder that
flounder under size cannot be used for bait.
According to Sgt. Gregory Rhodes of the Division’s Enforcement Section,
Delaware has a dismemberment ban for undersize flounder. If a person catches
a flounder and fillets it, the carcass must be kept on board.
The minimum size for flounder this year is 17 inches with a daily creel
limit of 4 fish.
“Small under size fish are the future of the fisheries,” notes Rhodes. “They
should not be retained. The Enforcement Section will be checking for
compliance and offenders will be ticketed.”
For further information or clarification of the law, contact Sgt. Gregory
Rhodes, (302) 739-9913, or check out the Division’s webpage on DNREC’s
website at: www.dnrec.delaware.gov/fw/ to access the Division of Fish and
Wildlife directly.
