Immediately following the opening ceremonies of
this year’s Indiana State Fair, Governor Mitch Daniels, DNR Director
Kyle Hupfer and other dignitaries invite the public to the
dedication and opening of DNR’s new amphitheater and Fishin’ Pond.
The opening ceremonies will take place at 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 9 in
the amphitheater behind the Natural Resources Building.
The dedication of the150-seat amphitheater and 312,000-gallon
Fishin’ Pond, sponsored by Veolia Water, will also be at the Natural
Resources Building.
The fishing pond will have 3,000 fish in it at any given time,
including 6 to 8-inch bluegill and 9-inch to 3 pound channel
catfish. Kids age 5 to 16 can fish for free, but need to
pre-register at the butterfly corner near the front of the Natural
Resources Building.
Kids will have the opportunity to catch fish and gently release
them back into the pond. Everything needed to fish will be supplied
at no charge. Kids will receive instructions before fishing and will
also have a trained volunteer to help them.
The new 150-seat amphitheater is next to the Fishin’ Pond and is
the perfect place for state fair visitors to watch DNR interpreters
and other specialists present wild and wonderful programs.
