ASK THE GAME & FISH

Q. "I notice from your leftover antelope list that most area are private land. Why is that?"

A. Many areas with predominantly private lands start out with much larger license quotas than do public land areas. In addition, public land areas are subscribed for very heavily because many hunters do not want to have to worry about obtaining permission or possibly paying a trespass fee to hunt. These factors combine for more difficult drawing odds on public land areas, hence public land has few leftovers. If you want to hunt areas with mostly public land, you shouldn’t count on getting a leftover license. You will need to get your application in for the initial drawing.
