Adult Channel Catfish Stocking

More than 7,000 pounds of adult channel catfish were stocked in 10 small impoundments across the state during the past two weeks, according to Bret Preston, Assistant Chief of Wildlife Resources.

“The catfish are stocked in these small lakes to provide mid-summer fishing opportunities, especially during this vacation period when folks are looking for some important family time together,” said Preston .

The majority of catfish ranged from one to two pounds with a few larger fish up to five pounds stocked. The following lakes were stocked: Anawalt, McDowell County; Barboursville, Cabell County; Bear Rocks, Ohio County; Berwind, McDowell County; Castleman Run, Brooke and Ohio counties; Cedar Creek, Gilmer County; Middle Wheeling Creek, Ohio County; North Bend, Ritchie County; Teter Creek, Barbour County; and Tomlinson Run, Hancock County.
