Segment of Munger State Trail temporarily closed (2006-06-16)

A segment of the Willard Munger State Trail in Carlton County, running from the town of Thomson approximately four miles northeast to the Kangas Road, an area just north of Jay Cooke State Park, will be closed Monday, June 19 to approximately Friday, July 7 for resurfacing. Trail heads and trail access points will have maps posted for an alternate route. Two and one half miles of the alternate route is gravel road, the rest is paved.

"While we regret the inconvenience this may cause for trail users,” said Joe Russell, DNR Area Trails and Waterways supervisor, “this important trail segment desperately needs surface repair – the asphalt surface is cracked and very rough. Unfortunately, the contract for repair came in at this busy time of year. We ask that all trail users take extra caution in this area.”

Trail updates can be obtained by calling DNR Trails and Waterways, Moose Lake, at (218) 485-5410. For more information, contact Joe Russell, (218) 485-5410.
