Summer Workshop for Teachers Explores Environmental Change

CONCORD, N.H. -- Environmental change is the focus of a five-day, three-graduate credit workshop for science teachers offered at New Hampshire Fish and Game Department headquarters in Concord from June 26-28 and July 26-27, 2006 (participants attend both sessions).

The interactive, content-based workshop looks at how natural forces and human influences impact change in the environment. It is designed to address the professional development goals of science teachers (any grade) who are working to achieve highly qualified science teacher status under the federal No Child Left Behind Legislation. Participants will receive activity manuals and instructional materials offered by the national, award-winning projects WILD, WET and Learning Tree. You'll also learn techniques for integrating the interdisciplinary, hands-on activities into the classroom.

The deadline to qualify for the early registration cost of $275 is June 16. The price includes all training materials, lunches, and certificate of attendance for up to 32.5 contact hours. Graduate credit is offered through Plymouth State University at an additional cost. One workshop day will be spent in the field at Bear Brook State Park.

The workshop is sponsored by the Content Enhancement Instructional Leadership Program, Project WILD, Project WET and N.H. Project Learning Tree. Instructors include staff from N.H. Fish and Game, N.H. Department of Environmental Services, N.H. Project Learning Tree, and UNH Cooperative Extension, as well as 8th grade science teacher and former WET coordinator Nicole Clegg, and Saundra Kent, who is a Southeast Regional Education Services Collaborative (SERESC) consultant and past award-winning secondary science teacher.
