West River Deer Season Finalized

West River Deer hunters will have more opportunities to harvest deer in 2006. The Game Fish and Parks Commission voted to decrease the number of resident "any deer" licenses by 175, and increase the number of "any deer plus any antlerless deer" by 230. Nonresident any deer licenses will decrease by 15 and the "any deer plus any antlerless deer" will increase by 18.

"The overall increase of 280 tags will allow the West River Deer hunter to harvest more does while they are hunting for a buck," said Tony Leif, Senior Game Manager for the South Dakota GFP’s Wildlife Division. "Hunters are the best tool to assist in managing and controlling deer populations across the state."

Other changes to the west river season include:

bullet
