Black Hills Deer Season Finalized

Licenses for the upcoming 2006 Black Hills Deer hunting season will offer hunters more flexibility in what animal they have an opportunity to harvest.

The Game Fish and Parks Commission voted to change all "any buck deer with two points or more" licenses to "any buck deer with two points or more or any antlerless deer" to encourage the harvest of more does.

"This will simply allow hunters to take advantage of the opportunity to harvest a doe if it presents itself," said George Vandel, Assistant Director of the Wildlife Division of South Dakota’s GFP.

Other changes to the Black Hills Deer season include:

bullet

Offering 500 more resident and 40 more nonresident of the aforementioned tags.

bullet

Offering 550 more resident and 44 more nonresident "antlerless" licenses.

bullet

Allow hunters to purchase up to five Black Hills Deer licenses in the event there are unsold antlerless permits after the initial drawings.

bullet

Adjusting the unit boundaries for Units BH1 and BD 4.

bullet

Adding a new unit with zero licenses available to allow the gaining of preference points.

The 2006 Black Hills Deer season will be held from November 1-30, 2006. License application should be available by June 23rd.
