Rockingham and Commission Hold Grand Opening for Hinson Lake
Rockingham Mayor Gene McLaurin helped the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission stock 1,000 catchable-sized channel catfish into Hinson Lake on June 1, in anticipation of the June 8 Grand Opening Ceremony.
(L-R) City Manager Monty Crump, Mayor Gene McLaurin, Hatchery Superintendent Rick Bradford and Hatchery Technician Doug Hinshaw added the channel catfish to Hinson Lake's fish community that includes largemouth bass, chain pickerel, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, warmouth and fliers.
Flanked by dignitaries from the City of Rockingham and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, Mayor Gene McLaurin and Commission Executive Director Richard Hamilton cut the ribbon at the June 8 Grand Opening Ceremony.
Visitors to the wildlife conservation area at Hinson Lake can use a 300-foot wooden bridge that connects more than 2.5 miles of scenic walking trails; a lodge with a meeting room, kitchen facilities, covered deck, picnic tables and outdoor patio with gas grill; and a universally accessible fishing pier and solar-powered fish feeders to attract fish.
