Public Hearing on Proposed Amendments to Shellfish Sanitation Regulations Set for May 31

The DNREC Division of Water Resources Shellfish and Recreational Water Branch will hold a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to the Shellfish Sanitation Regulations beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the DNREC Richardson & Robbins Building Auditorium, 89 Kings Highway, Dover.

The proposed changes relate to shellfish processing plant sanitation, requirements for shellfish harvesters and classification of Delaware waters regarding the suitability of the shellfish therein for human consumption and related legal harvest access, and would bring the regulations into conformity with current U.S. Food and Drug Administration and National Shellfish Sanitation Program requirements.

The public may review the proposed changes at the public hearing, or by contacting Jack Pingree, program manager, Shellfish and Recreational Water Branch, at 302-739-9939, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by writing to his attention at the Watershed Assessment Section, 820 Silver Lake Plaza, Suite 220, Dover, DE 19904-2464 or at jpingree@state.de.us.  Public comments are welcome.
