"Ladies Only" Fly-Fishing Workshop Offered

CONCORD, N.H. -- Ladies, this one's for you. New Hampshire Fish and Game is sponsoring a free weekend fly-fishing workshop for women on May 20 and 21, 2006, at Fish and Game headquarters in Concord. The session is designed for women and will be taught mostly by women. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Registration is limited to 20 participants and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, click here and on the course listing for a printable registration form to mail in or drop off at Fish and Game Headquarters, or contact Lisa Collins at (603) 271-3212 or aquatic-ed@wildlife.state.nh.us to request a registration form. No e-mail or phone registrations will be accepted.

Designed specifically for women's learning styles, this program is a no-pressure, fun and interactive environment for first-time fly-anglers. The course covers the basics of how to get started with equipment, fly casting, knot tying, essential gear, proper care of equipment, safety and finding those "hot spots" along New Hampshire's rivers and lakes. Expert instructors with Fish and Game's "Let's Go Fishing" program will prepare you to fly-fish on your own.

Participants should bring their own or borrowed equipment. A limited number of rods will be available for casting. Waders are a plus, but not necessary. Bring your own lunch. This is a rain-or-shine event, so come prepared with the appropriate clothing for all types of weather.

The Let's Go Fishing program introduces thousands of people each year to an outdoor activity that fosters good stewardship of New Hampshire's aquatic resources. Let's Go Fishing classes are made possible by the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Program.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department works to conserve, manage and protect the state's fish, wildlife and marine resources and their habitats, as well as providing the public with opportunities to use and appreciate these resources.
