Wireless Internet Access Available at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park - Tom Keith

Lincoln, Neb. – People planning to visit Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (SP) near Ashland this summer will be happy to learn there is now complimentary wireless Internet access available at four locations in the park.

Suzanne Ridder, administrative assistant of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commissions Division of State Parks, said wireless Internet access is available at the Peter Kiewit Lodge, the Lee and Helene Sapp Riverview Lodge, Margres Village Cabin Loop and Lakeside Campground. The service is also available at Mallet Lodge at Platte River SP.

“Internet and e-mail communication have quickly become a major part of our everyday lives in that the availability of Internet access is something travelers look for when making travel arrangements,” Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman said as he launched the service at Nebraskas state parks during a press conference at Mahoney SP on May 2. “Its important to respond to that need and by providing wireless Internet access we hope to attract more campers, visitors and conference planners to Mahoney State Park.”

“The wireless Internet Access will be a great service for conference guests and campers who want to keep in touch with business associates, family and friends,” Ridder said. “The service will be available to anyone in the park who has wireless access capabilities on their laptop computer.”

If the service proves to be popular at Mahoney SP there may be more access sites added within the park to meet the demand. Consideration may also be given to offering the service at other park locations.

Ridder said the project was made possible by efforts of the Governors Office, the Nebraska Department of Communications which provided the hardware, installation and knowledge to make the project a reality, and MicroLnk, the service provider.
