5/4/2006 Lincoln, Neb. – Visitors to 24 Nebraska state parks and recreation areas can make reservations by simply going online at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commissions web site or picking up the phone. People who are planning to visit any of the participating state parks and recreation areas may make reservations up to one year in advance for lodge rooms, cabins, camp sites or even picnic shelter use. At Fort Robinson State Park it is also possible to reserve a horse stall for riders who want to explore the Pine Ridge on their own mount. To help people decide on which park areas they are interested in visiting, the Commissions Internet web site at www.outdoornebraska.org, has a Virtual Tours of Nebraska feature which shows interesting areas across the state. In addition to photos of attractions, quick links are available during the tour, providing a map, driving directions and contact information. The areas offering reservations are Eugene T. Mahoney, Indian Cave, Platte River, Niobrara, Ponca, Fort Robinson and Chadron state parks and Branched Oak, Louisville, Pawnee, Two Rivers, Lewis and Clark, Fremont, Willow Creek, Victoria Springs, Calamus, Lake McConaughy, Lake Ogallala, Fort Kearny, Johnson Lake, Mormon Island, Rock Creek Station, Lake Minatare and Windmill state recreation areas. Web reservations are available 24 hours per day, seven days a week. By making your reservations online, you save $1 on the reservation fee. Reservations may also be made by phone at (402) 471-1414, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Central Time, seven days a week, except that the call center will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day and Easter Sunday. Making a reservation is easy. All campgrounds offer first-come, first-served campsites, but at the park locations that accept reservations, 50 percent of the campsites may be reserved in advance of the visit. Reservable sites have a sign that flips up to indicate it is reserved. If the site has been reserved for the weekend, for instance, it may be used by someone else during the week and the sign will say “available for this night only.” Check at the area office to determine the status of any site. If you have a site reserved, you may go directly to that site when you arrive. If someone is using your site, contact the area staff. Complete information about the reservation system and how to use it may be found on the Commissions web site at www.outdoornebraska.org.
