Spring Turkey Hunting Season Set to Begin

The spring turkey-hunting season is set to begin April 8 and end May 21. Hunters must have the upland game bird, conservation, hunter access enhancement and turkey licenses to legally pursue a turkey in the spring or fall.

During the spring season only shotguns may be used and only a male turkey (Tom/Gobbler) may be harvested. Hunters can purchase two turkey licenses and harvest two gobblers in the spring. If the hunter does harvest two gobblers in the spring, they have reached their harvest limit for that hunting year.

During the fall hunters may harvest two gobblers or one gobbler and one hen or two hens. The harvest limit is two turkeys for each hunter per hunting year. Shotguns and rifles may be used in the fall.

During the spring hunters generally wear camouflage clothing and try to call a gobbler to within 20 - 40 yards. Hunters are reminded to be careful and avoid hunting accidents by using common sense. Remember: others are probably in the area hunting turkeys so some caution is required to avoid a hunting accident.
