2006 NONRESIDENT ELK LICENSE DRAW SCHEDULE

2/20/2006
CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department today announced its timeline for conducting the 2006 nonresident elk license draw.

The draw will begin Feb. 24. Results will be available on the department’s Web site or by phone Feb. 28. Refund checks for unsuccessful applicants will be mailed March 6. The resident and nonresident spring turkey drawing, results and mailing are planned for the same dates.

"Our volume of applications was up this year," said Game and Fish Fiscal Division Chief Ron Arnold. "And we received 75 percent of the applications in the mail on the last two days of the application period. It’s been a real scramble to get all of those applications processed, but we will still be able to have the results available for hunters at the end of February."

This year’s application process included the addition of a preference point option for nonresident elk hunters. The Game and Fish is currently developing an electronic license system that, among other things, will allow hunters to file applications on-line.

"Eventually, this new electronic system will help cut down on paperwork and streamline the whole process," says Arnold. "We’re looking forward to rolling out the system and providing even better customer service to our sportsmen."

Hunters interested in the results of the nonresident elk license draw can visit the department’s Web site beginning Feb. 28 at http://gf.state.wy.us/ or call the customer service center at (307) 777-4600.
