Catch of the week
Conservancy Park Lake: Congratulations to Ethan Troncosa, age 4, of Tijeras. He caught his first fish ever at the youth pond. It was a 10-inch rainbow trout caught on salmon eggs. In a three-hour stretch, he and his brother caught six rainbows in the 9- to 11-inch range.

NORTHEAST AREA
COCHITI LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. CONCHAS LAKE: Cold weather kept anglers off the lake this past week and we had no reports. EAGLE NEST LAKE: A portion of the lake opened to ice fishing this past week. It's about a five-acre area between the boat ramps. Ice fishing in this area was very good over the weekend for anglers using jigs tipped with worms or wax worms for perch. A few trout were taken on ice jigs and salmon eggs. For updated ice conditions call the state park office at 505-377-1594. LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: Colder weather this past week put a thin layer of ice over both lakes. They are closed to fishing at this time. Anglers should call the Sugarite state park office at 505-445-5607 for updated ice conditions. PECOS RIVER: As of Monday morning, water flow was 5.4cfs near Anton Chico. Fishing in the Villanueva area was very good this past week as several limits of rainbows were taken. Anglers did well using spinners, salmon eggs, worms power bait and bead head hare's ears. RED RIVER: Water flow near Questa was 17cfs and below the hatchery was 33cfs as of Monday. Down stream from the hatchery, trout fishing was fair for anglers using dry/dropper combinations with small bead head nymphs. There was also some dry fly action in the late afternoon hours. RIO GRANDE: As of Monday, water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge was 399cfs. Fishing for northern pike slowed a bit this past week but a few were taken on large chartreuse and red and white bunny leaches. Fishing for trout was slow with only a few reported taken on salmon eggs. STORRIE LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. The only ice on the lake is at the south end and there is plenty of open water for bank fishing. For updated conditions, call the state park office at 505-425-7278. UTE LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
NORTHWEST AREA
ABIQUIU LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species but there were a few good size brown trout taken by anglers trolling jointed crank baits. The water surface temp was about 38 degrees and one angler noted that the fish were widely dispersed at depths of 18-to-40 feet along the northeast side of the lake. We had no reports from anglers fishing from the bank. ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: There has been some good dry fly action on the drains the past two weeks. Anglers have done well using small parachute adams during the afternoon hours. A few fish have also been taken on salmon eggs, wax worms, power bait and small copper john barrs. BLUEWATER LAKE: As of this past Monday, the lake was about 50% free of ice. Trout fishing from the bank was good for anglers using power bait, corn and salmon eggs. Contact the state park office at 505-876-2391 for updated ice conditions. CONSERVANCY PARK LAKE: Fishing was good this past week for anglers fishing the youth pond and the regular waters. They were using salmon eggs, corn and salmon egg combinations, wax worms, power bait, prop flies and bead head nymphs. Best flies on the catch and release water were bead head nymphs worked deep. CHAMA RIVER: Water flow below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 176cfs and 21cfs below Abiquiu. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair for anglers using spinners and worms. They were catching 12-to-16 inch brown trout. Below El Vado, fishing was fair for anglers using bead head nymphs, spinners and night crawlers for a mix of brown and rainbow trout. EL VADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. The ice is breaking up some at the south end of the lake. FENTON LAKE: As of this past Monday, ice on the lake was considered unsafe for fishing. Anglers should call the state park office at 505-829-3630 for updated ice conditions. HERON LAKE: Bank fishing slowed a bit this past week but a few nice rainbows in the 10-to-14 inch size were taken by anglers using corn, salmon eggs and power bait. For updated conditions, call the state park office at 505-588-7470. JEMEZ RIVER: As of Monday, water flow on the Jemez near Jemez Springs was 20cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. NAVAJO LAKE: Warmer weather brought a few more anglers out this past week. They reported catching several brown and rainbow trout in the 16-to-19 inch range. The best reports came from anglers trolling jointed crank baits up the Pine arm of the lake. SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday morning was 356cfs. Trout fishing in the Quality Waters was good for anglers using brown and black foam wing emergers, San Juan worms, red annelids, tan midge larva and small leeches. We had good reports from the upper flats and the Texas Hole areas. Through the bait waters, anglers did best using worms, bead head wooly buggers, jerk baits and salmon eggs.
SOUTHWEST AREA
BEAR CANYON: Fishing was good for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and worms for trout. A few were also taken on spinners. BILL EVANS LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good using salmon eggs and power bait for trout. BURN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. CABALLO LAKE: Our only report this past week was from an angler fishing from the bank near the east boat ramp. He was using chartreuse and green sassy shad and caught several good size white bass. ELEPHANT BUTTE: The surface temperature this past week ranged from 42-to-45 degrees and the water was still quite murky. Fishing was slow for all species. ESCONDIDA LAKE: Fishing was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and small spoons for trout. GILA RIVER: Water on the main river was flowing at 62cfs as of Monday morning. We had no reports from anglers but fishing on the Forks should be good as they were recently stocked. GLENWOOD POND: Trout fishing was good for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs. LAKE ROBERTS: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using worms, power bait and salmon eggs. PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species. QUEMADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. Anglers should call the Quemado Ranger District at 505-773-4678 for updated ice conditions. RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte was 11cfs on Monday. We had no reports from anglers this week.
SOUTHEAST AREA
BATAAN LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. BOSQUE REDONDO: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using corn, power bait, small spoons, prop flies and salmon eggs for trout. BOTTOMLESS LAKES: Fishing at Cottonwood and Devil's Inkwell was good for anglers using salmon eggs, small spoons, power bait and prop flies for trout. BRANTLEY: Fishing was slow for all species. CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: We had no reports from anglers this week. LAKE VAN: We had no reports from anglers this week. PECOS: Below Sumner Lake , water flow on Monday was 25cfs. Trout fishing was reported as fair for some, slow for others. Our best reports came from anglers using rainbow power bait and prop flies. PERCH LAKE: Fishing was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, corn/egg combinations and power bait for trout. A few fish were also taken on prop flies. RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow as of Monday was .26cfs. Fishing was slow. SANTA ROSA LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. SUMNER LAKE: Fishing pressure was very light this past week. One boater out on Thursday reported catching several small crappie near the dam. He was using Kastmasters.
