ASK THE GAME & FISH

2/13/06

Q. "What are the license requirements to hunt snow geese during the spring season?"

A. We assume you are referring to the Light Goose Conservation Order, which is a special regulation that allows the harvest of light geese during the late winter and spring. Light geese includes the snow goose, blue goose and Ross’ goose.

Hunters must have a valid Wyoming bird license, conservation stamp and also a $10.50 Conservation Order Special Management Permit. In a departure from other waterfowl hunting, the Federal Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp (duck stamp) and Harvest Information Program permit (HIP) are not required during the conservation order. The Light Goose Conservation Order is only for the Central Flyway of Wyoming and runs Feb. 20-April 2. Complete details are found in the Late Migratory Game Bird Regulations.
