Lake
Ouachita Vista Trail segment completed |
MOUNT IDA - Dedication
ceremonies for the initial 5.2 miles of the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail
complex have been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, March 10, at a
trailhead on the eastern shore of Denby Bay near Mount Ida.
The trail is a project of the Lake Ouachita Citizens Focus Committee, a
volunteer group working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide
citizen input and support in the Corps’ operation of the lake and its
facilities. It was constructed with $130,000 in federal grants as well
as matching funds and in-kind contributions supplied by federal, state
and local agencies. When completed, the system of hiking and mountain
biking trails is expected to include some 35 to 40 miles of trails
connecting resorts and Corps of Engineers’ recreation areas on the
lake’s southern shore.
The initial section travels north-south along Denby Bay’s eastern shore
and runs from the dedication trailhead north to the Corps’ Tompkins Bend
Recreation Area.
The trailhead can be reached by taking Shangri-La Road, the entrance
road to the Shangri-La Resort, north from U.S. 270 about 10 miles east
of Mount Ida and 25 miles west of Hot Springs and then traveling one
block and taking Trails End Road left to the trailhead. For more
