It’s a Hoot! program for tots at Salamonie Feb. 7 & 8

Enjoy learning about nature in an active and exciting way with your child or grandchild. Kids ages 2 to 5 and their significant adults are invited to join the fun as the experts talk about owls on Tue., Feb. 7 or Wed., Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Salamonie interpretive center.

This program is offered twice to accommodate more children. In this one-and-a-half-hour program, participants will work on activities focused around nature in winter and the letter O, go outside, hear a story, enjoy a craft and tour the interpretive center and wildlife viewing window.

Teresa Rody, interpretive naturalist, said, "I’m looking forward to sharing the world of owls with the children this month. We’ll hoot like owls and talk about how owls raise young so early in the year that the mothers can get snowed on while sitting on the nest."

Parents are asked to register in advance by calling 260-468-2127, and to stay with their child throughout the program. Participants can choose to bring their lunch to eat together after the event.

The Salamonie interpretive center is open Wednesday through Friday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. This barrier-free building features exhibits, floor-to-ceiling windows in the wildlife viewing area and staff to answer questions. Located in Lost Bridge West Recreation Area on Highway 105 in western Huntington Co., the site charges a $4 entrance fee ($5 for out-of-state vehicles).
