Open houses scheduled for Minnesota River Trail (2006-02-03)

Open houses scheduled for Minnesota River Trail

A series of open houses sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Minnesota Trails Initiative have been scheduled to obtain public input on the future of the first leg of the proposed Minnesota River Trail. (Open House dates and locations are listed below). Legislative authorization calls for the Minnesota River Trail to begin at the entrance to Big Stone Lake State Park and extend along the Minnesota River Valley, connecting with the Minnesota Valley Trail at Le Sueur. Ideas and concerns received at the open houses will be used to help develop a master plan for the section of trail corridor from Big Stone Lake State Park to Franklin. Input will be sought on suggested trail uses, trail surfaces, potential alignments, desired amenities such as parking lots and rest areas, and trail management.

Maps and other trail information will be on display at the open houses. DNR staff and volunteers will be available to discuss issues and answer questions. For those unable to attend an open house, questions, comments and opinions can be directed to:
