Vermont Statewide Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) Now Available

WATERBURY-The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation announces the publication of the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Plan, 2005-2009. The document provides a vision, along with goals and actions, in support of outdoor recreation endeavors throughout the state over the next few years. Towns, organizations, and recreationist's are encouraged to refer to the plan when coordinating their activities with statewide priorities.

Copies of the plan are available for review at offices of Vermonts 11 regional commissions; at offices of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources in Barre, Essex, Rutland, St. Johnsbury, Springfield, and Waterbury; and at the states regional libraries in Berlin and St. Johnsbury. In addition, the document is posted on the departments website in PDF and Word formats at the following address:
www.vtfpr.org/recreation/scorp/index.htm
The document is a component of the National Park Service planning process known as SCORP," which stands for Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. Such a plan is a requirement for the state to receive Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) dollars. Since 1965 the LWCF, administered by the National Park Service, has provided Vermont communities and state agencies with more than 27 million dollars towards acquisition, conservation, and development of outdoor recreation areas and facilities.

Hundreds of recreational facilities have been developed in Vermont through more than 500 projects of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. These projects include our public parks, town greens, ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, skate parks, picnic areas, and playgrounds. Last year's apportionment for municipal and state projects was $788,780.
