Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

NORTHEAST AREA

COCHITI LAKE: The boat ramp area remained free of ice over the past weekend. There were no reports from anglers this week.

CONCHAS LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: The lake is covered with a thin layer of ice and is closed to ice fishing at this time.   Conditions may change and anglers should call the state park office at 505-377-1594 for ice condition updates.

LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: Both lakes are closed to ice fishing. Lake Alice is covered with a thin layer of ice. Lake Maloya has some open water for bank fishing but we had no reports from anglers this week.   Anglers should call the Sugarite state park office at 505-445-5607 for updated ice conditions.  

PECOS RIVER: As of Monday morning, water flow was 1.3cfs near Anton Chico. Trout fishing was good this past week in the Villanueva area. The area freezes over at night but thaws for good afternoon fishing. Best baits are bead head nymphs and small spinners.

RED RIVER: Water flow below the hatchery was 40cfs as of Monday. Fishing was slow but a few trout were taken on bead head nymphs.

RIO GRANDE: As of Monday, water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge was 428cfs. Fishing for northern pike was rated as fair-to-good by anglers fishing the Pilar area. They were using jerk baits and bunny leaches and catching pike in the 26-to-32 inch range. Fishing for trout was slow.

STORRIE LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. With colder weather moving in, ice may form on the lake. For updated conditions, call the state park office at 505 425-7278.

UTE LAKE: The surface temperature ranged from 39 to 40 degrees this past weekend. Fishing slowed some from the previous week and it appears that the fish have moved deeper. Two anglers caught a mixed bag of walleye, white bass, smallmouth bass, crappie and catfish while working slab spoons and blades at 60 feet.   They were using white and silver spoons tipped with pieces of Gulp worms. We had no other reports from anglers.

 

NORTHWEST AREA

 

ABIQUIU LAKE: There were a few anglers on the lake this past week. Fishing was slow for all species.

ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Anglers fishing the Corrales and Bernalillo Drains reported catching several rainbow trout. They were using salmon eggs, wax worms and small wet flies. Try these same baits on the Belen, Peralta and Albuquerque Drains for stocked rainbow trout.

BLUEWATER LAKE: As of this past Monday, thin ice covered the entire lake and it was considered unsafe for ice fishing. Contact the state park office at 505-876-2391 for updated ice conditions.

CONSERVANCY PARK LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good this past week at all three ponds. Anglers fishing the bait waters did best using salmon eggs, wax worms, power bait and small spoons. Anglers fishing the catch and release waters did best using small bead head nymphs and prop flies.

CHAMA RIVER: Water flow below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 250cfs and 21cfs below Abiquiu. We had our best reports from anglers in several weeks. They did fairly well at both locations. Best baits below El Vado were night crawlers, bead head nymphs and wooly worms for a mix of brown and cutthroat trout. Below Abiquiu anglers caught rainbow and brown trout. Best baits were streamers, copper john barrs and bead head wooly buggers.

EL VADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers again this week.

FENTON LAKE: As of this past Monday the lake was completely covered with a thin layer of ice which was unsafe for ice fishing. Call the state park office at 505-829-3630 for updated ice conditions.

HERON LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good using power bait and roe sacs for rainbow trout. Anglers were catching 10-to-14 inch trout in the La Laja boat ramp and Ridge Rock areas. The best bait was roe sacs. There were no reports on other species. For updated conditions, call the state park office at 505 588-7470.

JEMEZ RIVER: As of Monday, water flow on the Jemez near Jemez Springs was 19cfs. Fishing was slow but a few trout were taken by anglers using small bead head nymphs and salmon eggs. They were fishing below the Soda Dam.

NAVAJO LAKE: Light line trolling with jointed crank baits was the only activity reported to us this past week. Anglers were fishing the Pine arm area of the lake and managed to catch a few small brown trout.

RAMAH LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday morning was 356cfs. Trout fishing was quite good this past week from the Texas Hole upstream. Anglers did well using small (size 20 and 22) black and brown emergers, crystal flash emergers and red annelids. They also reported some good dry fly action with small Griffith 's gnats on cloudy days.   Through the bait waters, best baits were wax worms, night crawlers, copper john barrs and salmon eggs.

 

SOUTHWEST AREA

 

BEAR CANYON: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and small spinners for trout.

BILL EVANS LAKE: Fishing was good for anglers using worms, salmon eggs, power bait and spoons for trout. We had no reports on other species.

BURN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

CABALLO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.

ELEPHANT BUTTE: The surface temperature this past week ranged from 40-to-44 degrees. Fishing was slow for all species but there were a few catfish taken on live bait and Gulp worms. We also heard of 1 largemouth bass taken on a slab spoon fished at 28 feet. There were no reports on other species.

ESCONDIDA LAKE: As of this past Saturday there was some open water for bank fishing. Fishing was good for anglers using power bait, wax worms and salmon eggs for trout.

GILA RIVER: Water on the main river was flowing at 52cfs as of Monday morning. We had no reports from anglers fishing the Forks this week.   

GLENWOOD POND: More trout were stocked here this past week but we had no reports from anglers.

LAKE ROBERTS: We had no reports from anglers this week.

PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species.

QUEMADO LAKE: The lake may have been covered with a thin layer of ice creating unsafe fishing conditions. Anglers should call the Quemado Ranger District at 505 773-4678 for updated conditions.

RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte was 2.3cfs on Monday. The river was stocked with trout just below the Butte this past week. Look for deeper holes and try using salmon eggs, power bait and small wet flies for some good trout action.

 

SOUTHEAST AREA

 

BATAAN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

BOSQUE REDONDO: Fishing was fair for anglers using corn and salmon eggs for trout.

BOTTOMLESS LAKES: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs and red and chartreuse power bait for trout.

BRANTLEY: Fishing was slow for all species.

CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

EL RITO CREEK:   This small stream in the Santa Rosa area was recently stocked and should provide some decent trout fishing. Give it a try with small flies or salmon eggs.

GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: We had no reports from anglers this week.  

LAKE VAN: Fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs for trout.

PECOS: Below Sumner Lake , water flow on Monday was 16 cfs. Fishing was reported as good for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait, spinners and spoons for trout.

PERCH LAKE: Fishing was good for anglers using prop flies, salmon eggs and power bait for trout.

RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow as of Monday was .26 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

SANTA ROSA LAKE: There were very few anglers on the lake this past week. Fishing was reported as slow for all species.

SUMNER LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
