Help Monitor Delaware's Amphibians with DNREC's Division
of Fish and Wildlife
Have an ear for frog calls, or even think you might? If so, the Delaware
Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Delaware Amphibian Monitoring Program (DAMP)
needs you and other frog friendly volunteers to join in this exciting
national citizen science program.
Learn the calls of 13 types of frogs and complete three surveys between late
February and June on a survey route that is convenient for you. Routes are
available in Sussex, Kent and New Castle counties. A pre-season meeting for
volunteers will be held Monday, Jan. 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the
Aquatic Resources Education Center in Smyrna.
Delaware has a great diversity of frog species due to its overlap of
northern and southern species’ ranges and this program offers a great
opportunity to learn more about local nature and contribute to the
understanding of frog distribution and populations.
The Division of Fish and Wildlife’s amphibian monitoring program is directly
affiliated with the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program (NAAMP) and
data collected is used both by Delaware biologists and NAAMP.
For more information on the program or directions to the meeting, please
contact Annie Jacobs at the Aquatic Resources Education Center, (302)
653-2880 ext. 128, or annie.jacobs@state.de.us.
