Remember New Boat, Hunting and Fishing Licenses

PIERRE, S.D. – Recent nice weather has opened local waters, and many anglers have taken this opportunity to do some fishing. However, with the new year also comes the requirement to have new boats licenses, which many anglers are forgetting.

“This is just a reminder to let everyone know that it is that time of year again to renew boat licenses,” said Game, Fish and Parks Stanley County Conservation Officer Josh Carr. “Many anglers who have been fishing lakes Oahe, Sharpe and Francis Case have not had new licenses for their boats, and by taking care of these things now, boaters can eliminate their chances of not being able to take the boat out when the weather really gets nice.”

Carr noted that now is also a good time to buy a 2006 hunting and fishing license, as South Dakota’s 2005 hunting and fishing licenses expire after Jan. 31.

“Many of us think about purchasing licenses the first chance we get,” Carr said. “Then that first good fishing opportunity comes along, and in our excitement, we may forget to purchase the new license before going out. It is a very good idea to purchase the license now and do away with all worry about forgetting later.”

Boat licenses and registrations can be purchased at county treasurer’s offices. General hunting and fishing licenses may be purchased at storefront license agents around the state. Internet license sales are available through the GFP website at www.sdgfp.info.
