2006 Waterfowl Stamp Will Be Unveiled at Wildlife Arts Festival

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 23) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will unveil its 2006 Waterfowl Stamp and Print portrait at the opening reception of the 11th Annual East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival on Feb. 10. Sponsored by the East Carolina Wildfowl Guild, the reception will begin at 7 p.m. at the Washington Civic Center in Beaufort County. Former Wildlife Resources Commissioner and current N.C. Rep. Arthur Williams of Washington will unveil the portrait.

“Scaup at Gull Rock Game Land,” by Gerald Putt of Boiling Springs, Pa., portrays scaup approaching a rig of decoys on Pamlico Sound. Gull Rock Game Land, which lies adjacent to Pamlico Sound in Hyde County, is a popular wintering spot for bluebills, as scaup are commonly called.

The acrylic portrait is the last in a series of five paintings that reflects waterfowl hunting traditions on Commission-owned game lands and impoundments.

Signed and numbered regular edition prints with mint stamps of “Scaup at Gull Rock Game Land” will be available from the Commission on July 1 for $145.

For more information on the North Carolina waterfowl stamp or the Waterfowl Conservation Stamp and Print program, contact the Commission at (866) 945-3746, or visit the Wild Store.
