Clean Marina
Workshop Planned in Annapolis and Cambridge
1/18/2006 -
ANNAPOLIS — The Department of Natural Resources will host two Clean Marina
workshops in January and February to introduce the voluntary pollution
prevention program to marina, boatyard, and yacht club operators.
January 19th Eastport Yacht Club,
Annapolis, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
*February 2nd Holiday Inn Express, Cambridge, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
(*This is a change from previously announced date for this location.)
The workshops are intended to encourage marinas, boatyards, and yacht
clubs to seek certification in the program. Free program materials
including a Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook, an Award Checklist, and
boater education items will be provided.
During these workshops, Clean Marina Program staff will explain the
structure of the program, review key chapters of the Clean Marina
Guidebook, and discuss how to become certified as a Clean Marina. Benefits
to certification as a Clean Marina will be presented and questions from
participants will be answered. An operator of a Clean Marina will also be
invited to discuss exactly what he or she did to earn the Clean Marina
Award. Weather permitting, the workshops will also include a brief tour of
a certified Clean Marina. There is no charge for the workshops but advance
registration is required. To register visit

The Maryland Clean Marina Initiative promotes and celebrates the
voluntary adoption of best management practices to prevent pollution by
marinas, boatyards, and recreational boaters. The goal of the program is
to certify at least 25 percent of Maryland’s estimated 600 marinas as
Clean Marinas or Clean Marina Partners (small facilities such as boat
ramps or community piers). To date over 18 percent (112) have been
certified.
