2006 First-Drawing Application Deadlines Available Online

1/9/2006  -  PIERRE, S.D. – Tentative dates for first-drawing application deadlines for South Dakota’s 2006 limited-license hunting seasons have been posted to the Game, Fish and Parks website at www.sdgfp.info. Paper copies are scheduled to be available by the end of the month.

Game, Fish and Parks License Office Supervisor Scott Simpson says this year’s proposed first-drawing application deadlines will close on Fridays, as usual, for paper applications, but online applicants will have a few extra hours that will stretch the deadline into Tuesday mornings.

"The dates given online represent the season’s first paper application deadline, which is almost always a Friday," Simpson said. "Those who wish to apply via computer with a credit card have a few extra days to do so, which will end at 8 a.m. on Tuesday mornings instead of at midnight on Monday evening.”

For example, spring turkey is the first application deadline, and paper applications for those licenses must be postmarked no later than Friday, Feb. 24. Online applicants, on the other hand, will have up to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, to submit their application via computer.

“The application system has to be activated and deactivated manually for each season,” Simpson noted, “and getting the system deactivated at midnight was inconvenient and unreasonable, especially if unforeseen problems came up. Overall, I believe that moving the deadline to 8 a.m. will be welcomed by applicants, as it offers more convenience for everyone involved.”

Simpson noted that the spring turkey paper forms and the online application program should be available by the end of the month. The paper application will be available at license agents, GFP offices and via the department’s website.

Credit cards accepted by the online application system include Visa and MasterCard.
