Public comment sought on plans for 2006-08 hunting seasons

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking public comments on various options for the 2006-08 hunting seasons.

A series of seven public meetings have been scheduled at sites throughout the state. Information gathered at those meetings will help establish final hunting season recommendations that will be submitted to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission. The commission, which sets policy for WDFW, will consider the final hunting rules package at its April meeting.

To view or comment on the proposed hunting alternatives, visit WDFW’s website. The proposed alternatives will be available on the website after Jan. 10. To receive copies of the alternatives by mail, call (360) 902-2515 or write to: Hunting Season Comments, Wildlife Program, 600 Capital Way North, Olympia, WA, 98501. Public comments on the proposed alternatives can be mailed to the same address.

Comments also can be submitted in writing at the public meetings. All comments must be received by Feb. 3 to be considered for the final recommendations.

“We’re still shaping upcoming hunting seasons for a number of different species,” said Dave Ware, game manager for WDFW. “We want to collect as much public input as possible before making our final recommendations.”
