Weekly Fishing Report

COCHITI LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. If you are planning a trip here, try using a jig and minnow combination for a chance at catching some walleye and white bass. CONCHAS LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers fishing for crappie. They were using minnows on the north side of the lake and near the dam and fishing at depths of 25-to-30 feet. EAGLE NEST LAKE: Ice thickness is now about 10-to-12 inches. Fishing was fair this past week for anglers fishing for rainbow trout and perch. Some good size trout and perch were taken by anglers using wax worms, ice jigs and Kastmasters near the south boat ramp. LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: Warm weather this past week has once again created unsafe ice conditions. Anglers should call the Sugarite state park office at 505-445-5607 for updated ice conditions. PECOS RIVER: As of Monday morning, water flow was 12cfs near Anton Chico. Trout fishing downstream from the town of Pecos was slow-to-fair for anglers using salmon eggs and small wet flies. RED RIVER: Water flow below the hatchery was 52cfs as of Monday. We had no reports from anglers this week. RIO GRANDE: As of Monday, water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge was 530cfs. Fishing was slow for trout and slow-to-fair for northern pike. One angler caught a 30 inch pike and missed two other while using a red and white bunny leach. SANTA CRUZ: Some ice has started to form around the lake. The boat dock area is closed. We had no reports from anglers. STORRIE LAKE: Recent winds have broken up the ice around the lake. Bank fishing should be good but we had no reports from anglers this week. UTE LAKE: The surface temperature dropped this past week to between 40 and 43 degrees. Fishing was very good for anglers fishing for walleye and white bass. Deep trolling off planer boards with ripsticks and reef runners provided good action for some anglers working the Horseshoe Bend area. They caught big white bass and several walleye in the 3-to-4 pound class. Other anglers did well with minnows on a drop shot rig near Watson Island . They were fishing at 50 feet and catching big white bass. Black bass fishing was fair for anglers using jig and pig combinations and crank baits in 7-to-10 feet of water.
ABIQUIU LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs under a split shot, small dry flies and small bead head nymphs for trout. The best reports came in from the Bernalillo and Corrales Drains. BLUEWATER LAKE: Some water opened to bank fishing this past week with the very warm weather. Fishing was fair for anglers using cheese, salmon eggs, corn and power bait for trout. Contact the state park office at 505-876-2391 for updated ice conditions. CONSERVANCY PARK LAKE: Young anglers had a great time this past week fishing the youth pond. They were using wax worms under a split shot. A few were also taken on salmon eggs. Anglers fishing the catch and release pond did well using San Juan worms, egg patterns, wooly buggers, prop flies and spoons. CHAMA RIVER: Water flow below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 227cfs and 191cfs below Abiquiu. Fishing below El Vado was rated as slow with a few trout taken on salmon eggs and wooly buggers. We had no reports from below Abiquiu. EL VADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. FENTON LAKE: There is some ice on the lake but it is considered unsafe for ice fishing. Call the state park office at 505-829-3630 for updated ice conditions. HERON LAKE: Trout fishing from the bank was reported as good by anglers using salmon eggs, roe sacs, corn and chartreuse power bait. Anglers caught a mixed bag of rainbows and small lake trout. JEMEZ RIVER: As of Monday, water flow on the Jemez near Jemez Springs was 25cfs. Fishing was fair for anglers using egg patterns and small bead head nymphs. The best reports came from anglers fishing down stream from the Soda Dam. MANZANO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. NAVAJO LAKE: There were a few anglers on the lake this past week. They were trolling for trout and managed to pick up a few while working the Pine arm. They were trolling small crank baits on light line. RAMAH LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday morning was 483cfs. Trout fishing this past week was good in the Quality Water section. Anglers did well using San Juan worms, egg patterns, sparkle worms, bead head wooly buggers and small bunny leaches. Through the bait waters, fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs, cheese, jerk baits, wooly buggers and wax worms for a mixed bag of rainbow and brown trout. The water is off color.
SOUTHWEST AREA BEAR CANYON: Fishing was good for anglers using salmon eggs, prop flies and wooly buggers for trout. BILL EVANS LAKE: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs. BURN LAKE: Fishing was good using power bait, salmon eggs and corn for trout. CABALLO LAKE: Fishing was fair for anglers using minnows and jig and minnow combinations for walleye and catfish at the south end of the lake. ELEPHANT BUTTE: Dredging has been completed above the lake but the water is still quite murky. Surface temps this past week ranged from 44-to-46 degrees. Fishing was slow. There were a few white bass and striped bass taken by anglers using spoons and live bait and fishing at depths of 22-to-25 feet. We had no reports on other species. ESCONDIDA LAKE: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using small spoons, Kastmasters, salmon eggs and prop flies for trout. GILA RIVER: Water on the main river was flowing at 52cfs as of Monday morning. We had no reports from anglers fishing the Forks this week. GLENWOOD POND: There is still some summer vegetation on the pond as the weather has been quite warm. However, it has been well stocked and is fishable. LAKE ROBERTS: Fishing was reported as fair-to-good by anglers using bead head wooly buggers, salmon eggs and power bait for trout. PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species. QUEMADO LAKE: Ice is forming on the lake and is considered unsafe for fishing at this time. RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte was 1.1cfs on Monday. Fishing is difficult at this low level but should pick up in spring when levels are raised.
SOUTHEAST AREA BATAAN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. BOSQUE REDONDO: Fishing was good for anglers using flies under a bubble, corn and salmon eggs for trout. BOTTOMLESS LAKES: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and spinners for trout. BRANTLEY: Fishing was slow for all species. CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. LAKE VAN: Fishing was fair for anglers using prop flies under a bubble and salmon eggs for trout. PECOS: Below Sumner Lake , water flow on Monday was 8.9 cfs. Fishing was reported as fair-to-good for anglers using cheese, salmon eggs and prop flies for trout. PERCH LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using prop flies, salmon eggs and power bait. RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow as of Monday was 1.1cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. SANTA ROSA LAKE: There was very little fishing pressure on the lake this past week but some good bass fishing reported by two anglers. They caught several largemouth bass in the 9-to-13 inch range and one fish over four pounds. Best baits were tubes, spoons and drop shot rigs. SUMNER LAKE: There was no fishing activity on the lake this past week.
