"Get Outdoors this Winter" - Delaware's Certified Citizen Naturalist Training and Winter Volunteer Opportunities

Learn More at the Dover Public Library on January 10th

Nature enthusiasts and interested citizens are encouraged to learn more about Delaware’s Certified Citizen Naturalist Training and ecological volunteer programs at a presentation at the Dover Public Library on January 10th beginning at 7:00 p.m. The library is located at 45 S. State Street next to the city’s Weyant Building.

Annie Jacobs and Trina Cale-Rosario from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish and Wildlife will introduce participants to the new “Certified Citizen Naturalist” training program available for adults and young environmentalists, ages 12-18. Volunteer opportunities for winter ecological restoration projects will also be provided and how to get outdoors this winter to make a positive difference in our environment.

The evening’s other topic will be an overview of invasive plants, a major issue facing Delaware’s natural environment today. A unique pocket of rich woods near Smyrna, hosting rare wildflowers and threatened by invasive plants, will be highlighted. This site will be a major focus of the restoration projects this winter. Find out what you can do to make a difference for this special ecosystem!
