ASK THE GAME & FISH

Q. “Why do some waters have more liberal ice fishing regulations than others?”

A.  Waters with more liberal ice fishing regulations are primarily those lakes and reservoirs with large populations of fish other than trout, such as walleye. On those waters, anglers are allowed to use up to six lines while two lines are allowed elsewhere. The fishing regulations pamphlet gives a complete explanation of those waters covered under the special winter ice fishing regulation.
