Ask Fish And Game

Q: I am looking for a Christmas present for my brother-in-law. Can I purchase a hunting license for him?

A: It depends. If your brother-in-law is a nonresident you can purchase a license for him. If he is a resident you can't buy him a license but you can purchase a gift certificate at a Fish and Game office that he can use for that purpose. Adult residents 18 and over must purchase their own hunting license because they are required to prove their resident status when the license is issued. Gift certificates can be used at any Fish and Game office.
