State Fishing Lake to be Drained

JACKSON - Lake Charlie Capps, a 512 acre state fishing lake off Mississippi Hwy 8 in Bolivar County, is scheduled to be drained in the spring of 2006, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP).

The Department intends to remove all size, creel and gear limits on the harvest of all types of fish in the lake in late Jan.

"This is to encourage the public to remove as many fish as possible before the lake is totally drained and closed to public use," Fisheries Biologist Dennis Riecke said.

Future plans are to raise sections of the lake levee to prevent floodwater from entering the lake. According to Riecke, the MDWFP plans to restock the lake with game fish after renovations are complete.

The period for public comment on the above proposed actions should be mailed no later than December 21, 2005 to the Executive Director, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, 1505 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211-6374.

For more information, call the MDWFP Fisheries Division at 601-432-2200.
