BEAR HUNTERS CONTINUE TO SUSTAIN RECORD HARVEST PACE 11/28/2005 - HARRISBURG - Two days of bear hunting have produced a preliminary harvest of 2,875 bears, the largest two-day preliminary harvest total ever posted in the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania Game Commission employees processed 854 black bears on Tuesday, the second day of state's three-day bear season. In 2004, agency personnel processed 2,262 bears on the first two days of season, 2,299 in 2003; and 2,022 in 2002. In 2000, when the state record bear harvest was set, the two-day total was 2,559. "The record pace by hunters has continued through the season's first two days with hunters posting a record two-day kill of 2,875 bears," said Mark Ternent, Game Commission bear biologist. "Since rain is not forecasted for the final day of season, hunting conditions are expected to remain favorable."
