New access dedicated on Caddo River dedicated in Glenwood
GLENWOOD - Anglers and canoeists of the Caddo River have another access to pursue their hobbies. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission on Monday formerly dedicated the new access in Glenwood.

According to AGFC Assistant Chief of Fisheries Steve Filipek, Commissioner John Benjamin, of Glenwood, first approached agency personnel with the idea of an access at the railroad trestle landing about a year ago. "He told us he wanted to design a modern, environmentally sound river access area on the Caddo River at Glenwood," Filipek said.

Over 60 people attended the dedication ceremony that included many of the partners who helped fund and construct the area for the public's use of the Caddo. Glenwood Mayor Ron Martin and the city donated $7,000 towards the access and worked on landscaping the area, Filipek said. "They installed some very handy and functional picnic tables at the access area," he explained.

Pike County Judge Don Baker and county employees donated over $5,000 to the area by clearing trees and preparing the site. "They also helped by spreading the base material for the area," Filipek said.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, with funds from the Marine Fuel Tax Program and the Sportfish Restoration Program as well money from license purchases, pitched in with $40,000 for materials for the project and another $32,000 for the asphalt road into the area. Filipek estimated that the entire project cost approximately $90,000 when including all of the volunteer labor from the partners.
