ASK THE GAME & FISH

Q. “I’m going to accompany my friend on his elk hunt, but I don’t have a license. Can I carry a gun to hunt predators?”

A.  There is no law or regulation restricting carrying firearms during the firearms hunting season – but you can’t help your friend shoot his elk under any circumstances. There is no closed season on animals classified as predators, including  coyote, red fox, jackrabbits, porcupines, raccoons and skunks, and no license is required for either residents or nonresidents. There are other predacious animal such as bears, lions and bobcats, but to hunt them the appropriate license for each species must be obtained.
