WVPRO 16th Annual Trout Stocking In Summersville Tailwaters Delayed to November 2

Weather conditions have delayed the planned stocking of 3,000 pounds of brook and rainbow trout by the West Virginia Professional River Outfitters Association (WVPRO) in a remote four-mile section of the Gauley River . Originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 , the stocking now will be conducted Wednesday, November 2, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Summersville dam.

“The goal is not only to enhance the fall trout fishing opportunities for anglers, but also to provide holdover fish in the river between Summersville Dam and the Meadow River into the winter and spring months,” said Doug Proctor of WVPRO and Class VI River Runners. Each year Gauley River whitewater outfitters arrange for the fall trout stocking to extend fishing opportunities following the fall whitewater rafing season.

“The Division of Natural Resources is happy to partner with WVPRO in a program that benefits anglers,” said DNR Director Frank Jezioro.
