Fire Closes Popular Hunting Access

If your fall hunting plans include traversing portions of Boise River Wildlife Management Area (WMA), take note. Squaw Creek Road - a popular access to the WMA - will not be open to vehicle traffic this hunting season.

Fish and Game normally opens the road to vehicles for the hunting season, but this summer's Homestead Fire changed all that. "The fire burned through a good portion of the Squaw Creek drainage," Fish and Game wildlife biologist Ed Bottum said. "The road will remain closed to vehicular traffic through the hunting season to help protect the area until plantings are completed and fire damaged soils are stabilized." The WMA is still open to foot travel and bicycle traffic though cyclists must remain on designated trails and roadways.

Signs explaining the closure will be posted at Squaw Creek Road access points. For further information, contact Fish and Game's Nampa office at 465-8465.
