Inside FWP - Region 7

FWP Seeks Applicants for Region 7 Citizen Advisory Council

Miles City Regional Office of Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking applicants from the public to fill several volunteer positions on the first-ever Region 7 Citizen Advisory Council (CAC). The council is being established to provide input and suggestions to the regional staff and to bring their community issues to the table.

The CAC will be a general advisory committee that meets periodically and works with FWP on many issues and programs. Citizen advisors will serve in a voluntary capacity with meals and travel expenses provided. Meetings will be held a few times each year. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for January and the meetings will be open to the public.

Citizen advisors will be selected from numerous locations across the region. FWP is interested in selecting members from a large pool of candidates who represent a variety of communities and interest groups. The department welcomes interest from hunters, anglers, landowners, educators, trappers, outdoor recreationists, business owners and the general public.

"We encourage anyone who has an interest in the natural resources of southeastern Montana to apply," says Bryce Christensen, Region 7 supervisor. "We are eager to have a diverse group of citizens advise us on our programs and priorities and help us do a better job of managing the region’s fish, wildlife and recreational resources."

The function of the committee will be to:

bullet

Help promote Montana’s strong hunting, fishing, trapping and recreational traditions;

bullet

Give citizen’s an avenue to provide advise to FWP;

bullet

Provide a forum for ongoing two-way communication between the public and FWP;

bullet

Assist FWP personnel to be more responsive to the public;

bullet

Help FWP identify important public issues before they become problems;

bullet

Provide advice and perspective on important resource issues;

bullet

Assist FWP with crafting local, sustainable solutions to both regional and statewide issues.

If you are interested in serving on the CAC, phone Dwayne Andrews or Bryce Christensen at FWP in Miles City, 406-234-0900, or email dandrews@mt.gov.  Interested persons will receive an application in the mail or via email. Completed applications must be returned to FWP on or before November 1, 2005.
