Minnesota's Coastal Program seeking candidates for Coastal Council
(2005-09-27)
Minnesota's Lake Superior Coastal program is seeking candidates from
Cook, Carlton, Lake and St. Louis counties to serve on the Minnesota
Governor's Coastal Council.
Candidates must be nominated by a local unit of government (city, township
or county) within the coastal boundary.
Each local unit of government can submit up to three nominations. Also,
there are three at-large vacancies on the council. Any Minnesota resident
can submit a nominee for these vacancies. Only one elected official from
each county may serve on the Coastal Council. The governor makes the
appointments.
The Coastal Council makes recommendations to the commissioner of the
Department of Natural Resources on Coastal Program grant priorities,
projects to receive grant funding, and on the program's annual
administrative budget. Grant application review takes place from
mid-December to mid-March. During that time, the Coastal Council meets every
two weeks to review proposals.
Applications are due by Nov. 15. Each application (except at-large
applications) should be accompanied by a resolution of support from the
nominating unit of government.
Applications are available from the Secretary of State at
http://www.sos.state.mn.us/home/index.asp?page=306 and should be
submitted to the Secretary of State's office. A copy should also be
submitted to Minnesota's Lake Superior Coastal Program, 1568 Hwy 2, Two
Harbors, MN, 55616.
For information, call Pat Collins, program manager, at (218) 834-6612.
