Maritime Festival on Tap for Saturday at Cape Henlopen
State Park's Biden Center
On Saturday, Oct. 1, in conjunction with the Town of Lewes Boast the
Coast celebration, the Biden Center at Cape Henlopen State Park will host
talks on the role of Lewes in the War of 1812 and the life of a Delaware
waterman.
At 10 a.m. Charles Fithian, curator of archaeology for the state's Division
of Historical and Cultural Affairs, will talk about "The Forgotten War: The
Landscape, Historic Places and Maritime Activities of the War of 1812." He
will focus on maritime and naval activities, such as the British Blockade
and bombardment of Lewes in 1813.
At 2 p.m., “Thumper," a waterman from North Bowers Beach, will talk about
his life as a Delaware Bay waterman and his efforts to restore a Delaware
Bay Schooner, the Maggie Myers.
Both events are free at the Biden Center, but there is a charge to get into
the park. Call the Biden Center at 302-644-5005 for more information.
