L.D.W.F. CANCELS THE REMAINING LOTTERY TEAL HUNTS AT WHITE LAKE WETLANDS
CONSERVATION AREA 9/20/2005 The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has cancelled the remaining three teal lottery hunts scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22; Saturday, Sept. 24; and Sunday, Sept. 25 due to extreme low water conditions on the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area (WCA). LDWF canceled the first three of these teal lottery hunts last week and was holding out for rain this past weekend hoping that would improve the water levels before making a decision on the remaining teal lottery hunts on the White Lake WCA. The substantial amount of rain needed did not come and these dry conditions make access to interior wetlands and hunting blinds impossible. Hunting blinds, as well as open water areas, are essential to hunting and attracting waterfowl. This closure is relevant to White Lake WCA's 17,365-acre hunting impoundment. Lottery hunters will be notified by telephone and by letter of this action along with their $200 refund. For more information, contact Wayne Sweeney at 337-526-9900.
