ARKANSASLake
Conway: Bates Field and Stream said
the lake is clear and a little low. Bream fishing is good on worms,
wax worms, crickets and TiniMite bream jigs fished next to the bank.
Crappie fishing is good on minnows fished on the shady side of the
cypress trees. Bass are good in early mornings and late evenings on
white or chartreuse buzzbaits and Zoom Horny Toads fished around
lily pads. Dark plastic worms are catching a few fish near pads.
Catfishing is fair on trotlines, yo-yos and jugs baited with cut
shad.
Little Red River:
Lindsey's Resort said the river is running excellent, with one unit
being turned on in the afternoon. Many fish were caught last weekend
on Power Bait, Nightcrawlers and Power Eggs in the low water areas.
Greers Ferry:
Tommy Cauley of Fishfinder Guide Service said the water level is at
435.17. The catfishing is still very good on the lake and they are
being caught anywhere from 8 feet to 30 feet deep on nightcrawlers
and bream. The crappie are still suspended in the treetops 8 to 25
feet deep, the depth fluctuates daily with the weather. The bream
action is very good with crickets in 25 feet of water around boat
docks. The bass fishing is good in the mornings and evenings with
top-water lures. As the sun gets up, fish Texas-rigged worms and
Carolina-rigged centipedes in 12 to 45 feet of water for all 3
species. The hybrid and white bass continue to school all over the
lake. Point 14, Salt Creek, The Rockpile Area, and The Narrows are
the best spots to start. Black bass, smallmouth and Kentuckies are
mixed in with them. You can catch them just about anywhere you find
the shad on top-water baits, spoons, Rinky Dinks and in-line
spinners. The night fishing is still good under lights in the
ditches and mouth of creeks. The walleye continue to come in from
fisherman trolling all sorts of baits. Deep-diving crankbaits and
leeches are producing the best in 33 to 45 feet of water. After the
rain we are getting, most fish will make a major move to the creeks
after the shad and come up and stay up out of deeper water until
January or so.
Shiloh Marina said the lake is clear
and low. Many boats have been out in the last few days. Bream
fishing is fair in 10 feet of water on worms fished along the tree
line. White bass and hybrids are biting well on CC spoons and Little
Georges fished along the bottom. Catfish, walleye and Crappie were
all fair.
Harris Brake Lake:
Coffee Creek Landing said the lake is low. Bream are biting well on
crickets. A few incidental crappie are also being taken on crickets
by the bream fishermen. Bas are biting well on soft-plastics fished
on the first drop to deep water. Catfishing has been slow but steady
on nightcrawlers.
Lake Overcup:
Lakeview Landing said the action is beginning to
pick up. The lake is extremely low. Bream are fair in the shallows
and along the banks on crickets and red worms. Crappie fishing is
good in 6 to 11 feet of water on minnows and jigs fished along the
creek bends. Bass fishing is fair in 1 to 3 feet of water on small
spinnerbaits like the Booyah Pond Magic. Trotliners are bringing in
a few catfish with live minnows and shad in the middle of the lake.
Cadron Creek:
Wooster Grocery said fishing for all
species has been poor. A few bream have been caught on crickets and
a couple of anglers have caught a few crappie on live minnows.
Beaverfork Lake:
Wooster Grocery said bream fishing is fair on crickets. Bass and
crappie are holding in the shallows and occasionally take minnows.
Some bass have been taken on top-water lures.
Toad Suck Lock and Dam:
Bates Field and Stream said crappie fishing is fair behind jetties
on minnows. Bass fishing is good early in the morning on large stick
baits and black Bandit crankbaits behind jetties. Catfishing is fair
on shad, trotline minnows and night crawlers.
Little Maumelle River:
River Valley Bait said the river is at normal level and normal
clarity. Bream are biting well in 3 feet of water on waxworms in any
cover along the banks. Catfishing is good on live and prepared baits
fished on the bottom in the deeper pockets.
Lake Cargile:
Beeson's Grocery said the lake is almost clear and low. Bream
fishing is good on red wigglers and crickets. Crappie fishing is
good on live minnows under a slip-cork rig. Bass fishing is fair at
best.
Lake Maumelle:
Jolly Roger's Marina said black bass are biting well. They are in
deeper water, out to 25 feet deep during the day, but are moving
shallow at dawn and dusk. Try crankbaits and spinner baits during
the low-light hours and Carolina rigs, drop-shotted soft plastics
and tubes during the middle of the day. Kentucky bass are good and
are holding in 20- to 25-foot water. Anglers are doing well on
3-inch pumpkin grubs, worms and tube lures. The white bass are
schooling from the marina east to Three-fingers Cove with some
reports of white bass surfacing just north of Jim's Island. Catfish
are biting well on large minnows and prepared baits in 25 feet of
water. Crappie fishing is fair on 1/32-ounce jigs and small crappie
minnows fished in 18 to 22 feet of water. Bream are biting well on
crickets and worms in 20 feet of water.
Arkansas River:
Charley’s Hidden Harbor near Oppelo said the river is flowing at
21,000 cubic feet per second with a headwater of 285.57 and a
tailwater of 265.22. The hot weather has shut down the mid-day
fishing. White bass are strong just before daylight until 8:30 or so
on pearl- and shad-colored Hawg Traps and lipless crankbaits. The
best action has been around Flagg Lake, Point Remove Creek and
Copper’s Gap. Black bass are biting well early on buzzbaits and
jitterbugs around any overhangs. Once the sun is up, Junebug-colored
worms are producing along the drops in 3 to 8 feet of water.
Stripers are still around the jetty tips and are biting live shad.
Bream are in 2 to 5 feet of water and are being caught on crickets.
Crappie fishermen are doing well around woody structure in 3 to 10
feet of water. Catfish are biting whole shad in the late evening in
5 to 10 feet of water near the channel.
Tom’s Lake:
Shirley’s Bait said the lake is low, but the
water clarity is fair. Catfishing is good on worms, chicken livers,
cut shad and live bass minnows.
Bradford Lake:
Shirley’s Bait said the lake is low.
Catfishing is good on cut shad, chicken livers and live bait.
White River:
Shirley’s Bait said the river is running low and
the clarity is fair. Catfishing is good on worms, chicken livers,
cut shad and minnows.
Pickthorne Lake:
Outdoor Super Store said the weather has just
been too hot for any good fishing reports.
Sunset Lake:
Turbyfil’s said the lake is low. Bass fishing has been good around
the brush piles in 12 to 15 feet of water. Try using a soft-plastic
worm in red shad or other dark colors.
Saline River Access in
Benton: Turbyfil’s said the river is
running low and clear. Bass fishing has been good on the smallmouths
around brush piles on top-water lures. A few walleye have been
picked up in the deeper holes on brightly colored crankbaits.
Terry Lock and Dam:
McSwain Sports Center said the river is muddy and at normal levels.
Fishing was slow for all species.
Clear Lake:
McSwain Sports Center said the water is high and clear. Fishing was
poor last week for all species. A few bream were caught on crickets
in 2 to 3 feet of water. Some bass were also taken around brushy
areas in 2 to 3 feet of water. The bass were caught on a
bloodline-colored soft-plastic worm fished right against the stumps.
NORTH ARKANSAS:
White River:
Gaston's White River Resort said the river is running clear and low.
One to two generators are running in the afternoons. Fishing has
been excellent on orange and yellow Power Bait and nightcrawlers.
The best artificials have been olive green wooly buggers and pink
chenille jigs.
Wilderness Trail said Fishing for
trout on the White River has been good on Berkley Power Eggs in
yellow, white and pink. . With generation the Buoyant Spoons, Blue
Fox and Little Cleos are the bait of choice. The fly fishermen did
well on olive Woolly Bugger, Zebra Midge and olive scuds and sow
bugs. The Brown trout are being caught on Countdowns, Flat Fish and
Rogues.
Bull Shoals Lake:
Wilderness Trail said the lake level this week is 647.71, 6½ feet
below normal pool. The thermocline has been dropping a little each
week with the pool drawn down. This week the thermocline is at 35
feet and steady. As of Sunday morning, the surface temperature was
77 degrees. Crappie were spotty this week, one day they were on the
brush piles and the next day they were suspended out in front of
them. Crappie minnows still are the best bait to use, but grubs and
Swimming Minnows are also triggering a few. Largemouth bass made a
little move towards the banks with the cool down but that move will
be short lived with the heat. Work the banks in the middle of the
pockets and creeks first thing in the morning with buzzbaits or Zara
Spooks. After the sun hits the surface, move to secondary points
with jigs, Carolina rigs or Mojo rigs. Smallmouth bass are feeding
on crayfish on chunk rock and pea rock points. The best bite is in
the morning and again around 2 to 6 in the afternoon. Spider Jigs,
tubes, Carolina-rigged centipedes and football jigs are all
producing some nice smallies. Kentucky bass disappeared last week
with the shad moving to shallower water. Walleye are out in the
thermocline around points and over the flooded forest. A number of
anglers have been vertically jigging a spoon and catching quite a
few nice walleye. Long liners have also been having some success
pulling smaller baits with leadcore line. Stay in 34 to 38 feet of
water even on sunny hot days. As long as the walleyes food source
is in the thermocline the walleye will stay there.
Sugar Loaf Harbor said the lake is 8
feet below normal. The lake clarity is good to 18 feet, where it
gets cloudy, but the water gets clear again at 42 feet. Bream
fishing is excellent from the surface down to 10 feet practically
everywhere on the lake. Red wigglers have caught the most bream.
Crappie fishing is good on minnows fished on slip-cork rigs over
brush piles in 32 feet of water. Bass fishing is fair on crayfish
around 20 feet deep. Catfishing is good using jug lines; some large
cats are being taken.
Lake Norfork:
Cranfield Junction Quik Stop said the lake is clear. Bream are
biting well on main points and in the shallows from 3 to 5 feet deep
on red worms and crickets. Crappie fishing is fair around 30 feet
deep on jigheads baited with a minnow. Bass fishing is good on the
deep (42-feet deep) drops on spoons. Early and late in the day, some
bass are biting on jigs and top-water lures on main points.
Catfishing is decent on nightcrawlers and shiners fished along the
creek bends in 12 to 25 feet of water.
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS
Beaver Lake:
Southtown Sporting Goods said the lake is a little low. Bluegill are
biting fair in the shallows on red worms and crickets. Crappie
fishermen are doing well in 4 to 10 feet of water on tubes,
curly-tail grubs and minnows in the river arms. Black bass are fair
in the shallows at night on dark-colored plastic worms. During the
day, try finesse worms on a jighead. Catfishing has been fair on
trotlines baited with live bait.
Lake Fayetteville:
Lake Fayetteville Boat Dock said the lake is 6 to 8 feet low and the
water is clear. Bluegill and redear sunfish are biting red worms
well in 5 to 7 feet of water at the base of brush piles. Crappie
fishing is fair in 10 to 12 feet of water on minnows fished around
any submerged brush. Catfishing is fair, but no details are coming
in from fishermen.
Lake Sequoyah:
Lake Sequoyah Boat Dock said the lake is clear and 21/2 feet below
normal. Bream fishing is good on crickets around any visible cover
in 2 to 8 feet of water. Crappie are biting well around the same
areas on minnows and jigs. Bass fishing is fair in 2 to 6 feet of
water on spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and top-waters worked around the
weeds, lily pads and moss. Catfishing is good in the main channel of
the lake on goldfish, chicken livers and nightcrawlers.
Kings River:
Kings River Outfitters said the river is very low. Floating is not
impossible, it just requires some effort. The fishing is incredible.
Topwaters and natural color soft plastics will do the job for
smallmouth bass. The same lures in a smaller size will work on rock
bass and sunfish.
Buffalo River:
Ozark Outfitters said the river is running low and has a stain in
the water. Bass fishing has been good at night on top-water lures
fished in 2 to 4 feet of water. Catfish are good at night on chicken
livers and night crawlers. Bream fishing is good on night crawlers
fished 4-6 feet deep.
NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Lake Charles:
Powhatan Landing said the lake is low and stained. Bream fishing is
good with crickets around brush piles, stumps and rocky points.
Crappie fishing is fair in deep water with minnows around brush
piles, stumps and rocky points. Bass fishing is fair with crankbaits.
Catfish are biting on chicken liver and stink bait.
Black River:
Powhatan Landing said the river is clear and low.
Catfishing is fair with chicken liver and stink bait. Also, some
Kentuckies are being picked up.
Spring River:
Many Islands Camp said the river is running low and clear. Trout
fishing was excellent last weekend on in-line spinners and PowerBait.
SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS
Lake Chicot:
Koenig's Bass Tracker Marine said the bream are biting tiny tube
jigs fished near stumps, but most of the activity is early or late
in the day.
Lake Monticello:
Outdoor Super Store said few fishermen have
been on the lake.
Grand Lake:
Koenig's Bass Tracker Marine said crappie are fair on jigs tipped
with small minnows.
Arkansas River:
Sanders Pawn and Bait said there have been no
reports of good fishing.
SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS
Millwood Lake:
Millwood Lake Guide Service said the lake is 1 inch above normal
with a discharge at the dam of 176 cubic feet per second. The
surface temperature ranges from 78 to 84 degrees during the day.
Fishing for largemouth bass has been good, with the best bite in the
early morning or late evening. Heddon Dying Flutters, white or
firecracker buzzbaits, Zoom Horny Toads, Turbo Shads, or Bass
Assassin Shads in crystal shad or bubble gum colors, are all taking
some early morning keepers along the pad edges in Little River. The
jig bite is beginning to improve with some better fish coming from
the bases of cypress trees around 7-10 feet deep. Berkley 10" Power
Worms in red shad or blueberry colors are taking keeper length bass
along the river’s washouts where laydowns or stumps are present.
Crappie remain best early in the mornings, although the crappie bite
is beginning to shift closer to the mid-morning hours. The best
fishing this week is on smoke-colored grubs, 13 to 15 feet deep, in
contact with planted brush piles and tops. The catfish bite is good
on live shiners, cut shad, or chicken livers, on yo-yos under
cypress trees in Mud Lake and McGuire Lake, and trot lines in Little
River set at 15-20 feet. The best yo-yo bite is at night on live
shiners, in 9-14 feet depths. White bass are still randomly
schooling in Little River and are hitting ¼- to ½-oz. Rat-L-Traps in
chrome, white, or chrome/chartreuse colors. Good areas this week
have been in Little River around White Cliffs, McGuire Lake, and
Ark. Highway 71 Landing. Once you find those schools of shad, the
whites will be just below or adjacent to the school.
Lake Columbia:
Steve's Marine said the yearling bass are
schooling a little all over the lake. Bream are biting well on red
wigglers in 3 to 4 feet of water. Crappie fishing is fair on
gray-and-pink jigs from 10 to 12 feet deep. Catfishing is fair on
night crawlers.
Lake Erling:
Steve's Marine said the lake is low. Catfishing is fair on chicken
livers. A few black bass have been caught at night on spinner baits
with large, black blades.
White Oak Lake:
Charlie’s One Stop said the lake is low and clear. No reports for
fishing have come in all week.
Lake Greeson:
Lakeside Grocery, Motel/Bait Shop said the lake is low and clear.
Crappie fishing is good around 15 feet deep on minnows fished in the
brush piles.
DeGray Lake:
Point Cedar Bait Shop said crappie are biting well on number 4
minnows. All other fishing has been slow.
DeGray One Stop said the water level is
still low on DeGray. Bream fishing is good in 25 to 35 feet of water
on crickets fished along roadbeds and on the islands. Crappie are
fair at night along the creek channels and rocky points in 18 to 28
feet of water. Hybrids and black bass are good in the early and late
hours of the day on top-water lures and Roostertails. The most
action has been around Edgewood, the mouth of Brushy Creek and the
Caddo Bend area. Catfishing is fair on live bait fished under jugs
and noodles in 18 to 25 feet of water.
WEST-CENTRAL ARKANSAS
Lake Dardanelle:
Early Bird Outfitters said the water is at normal levels and the
surface temperature is cooling to 80 degrees. Bream fishing is good
in 2 to 4 feet of water on crickets and red worms fished in grassy
areas and on rocky points. Bass have been good on shallow-running
crankbaits fished along the rocks near the bank. Catfish are good on
chicken livers and live bait on jugs drifted below the river dam.
Cross Creek said crappie
are coming back to the brush piles and are biting fairly well on
jigs. Bass fishing was fair last week on soft-plastics and top-water
lures around brush and other cover.
Ozark Pool:
Lakeside Food Mart said there hasn’t been much fishing pressure with
everyone getting ready for hunting season. Bream are biting fair on
nightcrawlers and crickets in 4 feet of water. Crappie are biting
fair in 20 feet of water on cast and trolled Rat-L-Traps. Bass are
fair on crankbaits fished against the rocks. Catfish are fair on cut
bait and shrimp in the river.
Lake Ouachita:
Cross Creek said crappie fishermen did fairly well last week on
crappie jigs fished just outside the moss line.
Trader Bill’s Sport Shop said the lake
is low and clear. Bream are holding in 8 to 10 feet of water and are
biting crickets well just outside the moss line. Crappie fishing is
good in 15 feet of water. Black bass are schooling on the surface in
the middle of the day. Clear and bone-colored Zara Spooks and Crazy
Shads are working well on schooling fish.
Lake Catherine:
Trader Bill’s Sport Shop said the lake is clear and at normal
elevation. Bream are biting well on worms and crickets in 8 to 10
feet of water. Crappie fishing is good on spoons around brush piles
and stumps and on the outside edge of the moss line in 15 feet of
water. Bass are biting well at mid-day on jigs and spoons in 15 feet
of water. The bass are also biting well early and late in the day on
top-water lures skipped under docks and overhangs.
Lake Hamilton:
Trader Bill’s Sport Shop said the lake is clear and at normal
levels. Bream fishing has been good on 8 to 10 feet of water on
worms and crickets. Crappie fishing is good in 15 feet of water
around moss lines and brush piles. Try a silver spoon or heavy
jig-and-minnow combination. Stripers are breaking early in the
morning and late in the evening over water 25 feet deep. Black bass
are biting well on top-water lures and spinnerbaits in the middle of
the day when they are schooling in open areas of the coves. Dark
soft-plastic worms and black spinnerbaits are working well at night
on the largemouths.
Lake Hinkle:
Bill's Bait Shop said the lake is clear and at normal pool. Crappie
are biting fair in 20 to 25 feet of water. The few that are being
caught are nice-sized fish. Bass are schooling and are being caught
both on the surface and on the first drop to deep water on
soft-plastic worms. Catfish are biting well on live bait and chicken
livers fished around stumps in the back of the lake.
Lake Atkins:
Lucky Landing said the lake is clear and low. Crappie are biting
well 6 to 10 feet deep on minnows fished near brush.
Lake Nimrod:
Lake Nimrod Bait ‘n’ More II said the lake is at 342 feet. Bass
fishing is fair using plastic worms or spinnerbaits. Bream are
biting well on worms or crickets. Turkey livers, worms, minnows and
goldfish are catching quite a few catfish on yo-yos and
rod-and-reel. Crappie are biting well, the fish are still a bit deep
but are being taken on minnows and jigs.
Arkansas River:
Cross Creek said crappie fishing was fair to good on crappie
jigs fished just out of the current. Bass fishing is fair on
soft-plastic lures and top-water lures fished around the brush in
the slack-water areas. Tackle Box said the river is very muddy right
now. Crappie are biting well on minnows in 6 to 8 feet of water on
area lakes. Bass fishing is good early in the mornings on top-water
lures fished against the banks. As the sun gets high, pitching a jig
is catching a few fish around the visible structure. Catfishing is
good below the dam on cut shad.
SOUTH-CENTRAL ARKANSAS
Saline River:
Sanders Pawn and Bait said few anglers have been visiting the
river lately.
Cox Creek Lake:
Sanders Pawn and Bait said the lake is dark and low. Crappie
fishing is fair with minnows deep after dark. Catfishing is fair on
trotlines.
EAST ARKANSAS
Arkansas River (Pine
Bluff): The Tackle Box said the river
is running fairly clear and is at normal levels. Bream are biting
well on wax worms, crickets and red wigglers in 8 inches of water
along the edge of the current breaks. Crappie fishing is fair on
minnows fished 8 to 10 feet deep in the slack-water areas. Bass
fishing is poor, but a few fish have been caught on buzzbaits and
crankbaits fished along the banks out to 6 feet of water. Catfishing
is poor. A few cats have been pulled from the deepest pockets on the
river with nightcrawlers. River City Sporting Goods said the river
has been fairly clear. Black bass are biting well in the shallow
water out to 7 feet deep around the rocks and grass beds. Try
casting a crankbait parallel to the structure. Catfish are fair on
large minnows and cut shad.
Maddox Bay:
Maddox Bay Landing said the lake is low, but the clarity is
good. Bream are biting fair on popping bugs and other top-water
flies. Crappie are biting well on minnows fished in 2 to 5 feet of
water around the tops of trees and brush piles. Catfish are fair in
the still-water areas on stinkbait.
Midway Lake:
Ed's Boat Camp said the lake is too low to launch a boat.
Bear Creek Lake:
Six Rivers Sport Center said the lake is low with normal water
clarity. Bream are biting well on crickets fished in the brush piles
from 2 to 3 feet deep. Bass fishing is good in 6 to 8 feet of water
on soft-plastics fished over the points. Catfishing is good on
nightcrawlers. Cast out as far from the bank as you can with a
slip-sinker rig for the cats.
Horseshoe Lake:
Local fisherman Clyde Gregory said the lake is clear and low. Bream
are biting well on crickets fished 3 feet deep along the cypress
trees. Crappie fishing is fair on minnows fished along the piers.
Bass fishing has been good with some healthy fish being caught on
white spinnerbaits along the brush. A tournament last week had some
good stringers in it, with some 51/2-pound fish anchoring their
catch. Catfishing is good on nightcrawlers and stinkbait fished
under yo-yos around the cypress trees.
White River Refuge Lakes:
Ed’s Bait Shop said the lakes are extremely low. Not many people are
fishing right now, most are getting ready for hunting season.
