Information Needed to
Solve Two
Elk Poaching Cases
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Arizona Game and Fish
Department is asking for the public's help in finding the poachers who
killed two bull elk in the Williams area during the past two weeks.
The elk were both shot with arrows in Game Management Unit 8 near Davenport
Hill. The two poaching cases may or may not be related. One of the elk was
found dead by a recreationist in the area on Sept. 12.
"This is an example of poachers' disrespect for wildlife and the laws that
ensure our wildlife resources are available for future generations," says
Wildlife Manager Dan Gaska. "We need help from the public in catching the
poachers. Also, if anyone has removed parts of these elk from the field,
they are breaking the law and may not even know it. They may be hindering
law enforcement's ability to investigate the case."
Anyone with information about this poaching can call the department's
Operation Game Thief hotline toll-free at (800) 352-0700. A quick report of
any poaching case to the department is important, in order to preserve any
evidence. Callers may be eligible for a reward in this case. All calls may
remain confidential upon request.
