NATURAL RESOURCE ENTERPRISES THE FOCUS OF A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP FOR MS LANDOWNERS

9/12/05

Mississippi Landowners interested in earning additional revenue from their land can take part in a one-day workshop focusing on natural resource enterprises held on October 4th at Birdlands Plantation near Como, MS in Panola County. Natural resource enterprises encompass a variety of activities including: fee hunting and angling, trail riding, agritourism, wildlife watching, or bed and breakfasts.

Mississippi State University has partnered with the Farm Bureau, Ducks Unlimited, Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to offer this workshop.

Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to speak with others who are currently managing an enterprise, to receive "how to" information and to learn from resource professionals. Topics covered include: revenue potential, legal and accident liability, developing and operating an enterprise, marketing, laws and regulations, and cost-share programs. The afternoon session will be conducted in the field and focus on wildlife habitat management.

The Natural Resource Enterprises program was created by the Mississippi State University Extension Service. This program focuses on assisting private landowners in developing alternative or supplemental means of income on their land.

Registration closes one week prior to the workshop date; a fee of $20 applies. For more information visit: www.wildlifeworkshop.msstate.edu or call (662) 325-3174.
